BookFest Workshop 2: Textiles Sketchbook Pages
March 16 @ 10:00 am - 3:30 pm£65
To celebrate Portsmouth BookFest 2019 Kim Edith will be putting on several workshops to teach the art of making fabric sketchbooks. These are a great way to get started with Stitchbooking or making fabric art, with a simple construction and flexible design.
Saturday 16th March 10.00- 15.30
In this workshop experiment with textiles techniques to fill your fabric sketchbook. Explore traditional techniques such as applique and embroidery in new ways, and learn new processes such as iron-on vinyl and photo collage. Come along with a theme in mind and learn how to turn your ideas into artwork, or come ready to experiment in response to the materials and techniques. Create illustrative images or abstract artwork or journal pages, whatever you would like to work on.
If you have attended Workshop 1 you can bring your sketchbook from the previous session. If not you can bring your own fabric book, work on single sheets or purchase a fabric sketchbook on the day.
No experience necessary—Beginners are welcome. You will be using a range of sewing techniques to suit your level of experience, Kim is am happy to talk you through the basics as you go along, if needed. You can bring your own sewing machine if you have one, although Kim has some you can use if not.
All materials and equipment will be provided.
The workshop will take place at Kim’s studio – Number 6, Hotwalls. (Broad Street, Old Portsmouth, PO1 2FS). There will be a 30 minute lunch break and there are several nearby places you can eat – Try our onsite Canteen for a range of delicious food or bring a packed lunch. Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day.
There is limited on-road metered parking available opposite the studios and the nearest train station is Portsmouth Harbour which is a 15-20 minute walk.
This is a small workshop with 1-4 participants per session.
