In 2023, Hotwalls Studios have introduced a guest artist programme which invites local artists to use the historic Round Tower as their studio for the day, with public access. Novembers guest artist is Rebecca Hurst.

Open Studios is on the third Sunday of every month.

Read guest artist Rebecca Hursts bio below:

Rebecca Hurst’s work is an exploration of light, tone, colour, contrast. She is fascinated by shadows and light and the shapes created and takes her inspiration from the landscapes, farm machinery, architecture. Photographs and sketches are taken back to her to her studio in Winchester where she paints in Acrylics and Mixed Media.

“It is not always about the entire view or object which I choose to paint. I love to focus in on certain areas which might go unnoticed. A rusty tractor engine, pebbles on a beach, the lock of an old door, peeling paint on a sign. Exploration and play are an important part of my painting process and layers and layers of paint are added, scratched into, sanded before the painting begins to emerge and I can see the way. I want to create art which encourages the viewer really look closely, to see the world around them”.

Rebecca graduated from Surrey Institute of Art and Design, gaining a BA in Graphic Design (Visual Communication). She has been developing her artistic practice since 2013, taking various online and in-person workshops.’
