Portsmouth Green Drinks On Tour- Hotwalls Artist Special
June 13 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
After the success of this event last year, Portsmouth Green Drinks are revisiting Old Portsmouth this summer to hear from more Hotwalls artists, as they talk about their work and the environmental influences.
We’ll be joined by:
Alice Hume of Vanderhume (studio 12) – Alice is a textile artist who runs frame loom weave workshops around Portsmouth called “Hume Looms” which are all handmade from recycled wood. She’ll be talking specifically about an upcoming project she is embarking on called ‘Forest Weaves’. This project looks at using a variety of re-purposed and recycled materials to create a series of large scale weaves (one a month) with the help of the public. June’s subject matter is recycling and her weave will be focussing on the issue of plastics in the ocean.
Steve and Rachel from Company of Makers (studio 7) – Company of Makers create commissioned products that are all lovingly made from military uniforms. Their work means that old uniform hiding in a wardrobe, or in the loft, can have a new lease of life with sentiment and a practical purpose. The purpose behind all this creativity is to help fund making workshops for ex-Service personnel and their families who are struggling with life on civvy street. Funds raised through purchases contribute to workshops for those members of the Armed Forces community that have struggled with the transition to civilian life.
Portsmouth Green Drinks is a great way of meeting others working in the environmental sector, or who are simply interested in environmental & sustainability issues and want to enjoy a relaxed evening in good company.
Portsmouth Green Drinks is part of the Green Drinks network, an international informal networking group on an environmental theme.
Food and drink will be available from The Canteen (open until 9pm). We ask that you ‘Bring Your Own’ re-useable cup, so that you can then take your drink into the Round Tower, where we will hear from the artists at 8pm.
