Figure Painting in Oils – 5 week course

Come and paint in the inspiring setting of Portsmouth’s historic Round Tower, where you’ll receive supportive, hands-on guidance throughout the course.

5-Week Figure Painting in Oils
Tuesdays, 10am–1pm | Starting 13th January

Location: The Round Tower, Old Portsmouth

Join us for a 5-week oil painting course exploring the beauty and complexity of the human figure.

Working from both photo reference and a live model, you’ll learn to capture flesh tones, form, and anatomy through a painterly and observational approach.

Throughout the course, we’ll cover:

• Understanding tonal values and how they build the structure of the figure
• Exploring colour temperature to create lifelike and expressive skin tones
• Developing a confident approach to painting the figure in oils
• Translating drawing knowledge into paint application and composition

Whilst we welcome beginners, some understanding of drawing is preferable to get the most from the sessions. Easels are provided, along with some classroom materials. We’ll also share a materials list before the course begins so you can bring your own preferred paints and brushes. Our final session, working from a live model, may run slightly longer (details to be confirmed).
