Intro to Oil Painting – One Day Workshop

Whether you’re a complete beginner or just curious to try oils for the first time, this workshop is the perfect place to start.

Saturday 7th March | 10-3pm | The Round Tower, Portsmouth 

Join us for a fun, accessible, and informative one-day introduction to oil painting, perfect for complete beginners or those looking to reconnect with the medium. 

During the day, you’ll complete two small paintings: a classical still life and a cloud study, giving you hands-on experience with both observational and expressive approaches. You’ll be introduced to the basics of working with oil paints, including how to handle solvents safely, choosing the right brushes, and appropriate painting surfaces.

The session also covers essential skills such as colour mixing and understanding tonal values, crucial foundations for creating depth and realism in your work. There’ll be a break for lunch, and we’ll keep you fuelled with plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day.
