January Open Studios with guest artist Misty Ceramics

On the third Sunday of every month Hotwalls Studios hosts its monthly Open Studios. All 13 studios open their doors between 11am and 4pm, for the public to chat, watch and buy. Find demonstrations and possible drop in sessions throughout our studios and find our guest artist in the Historic Round Tower.

Januarys Guest Artist is Misty Ceramics:

Karen is a potter, self-taught during lockdown, who is passionate about creating ceramic art evocative of sea life and the coast.

The majority of her work reflects her joy of diving and The Deep, capturing the mysteries of the sea. She invites you to touch and explore the forms, sculptural as well as functional, recreating a tidal sense of other-worldliness.

Karen incorporates many techniques, but especially loves throwing a piece and then transforming it through sculpture or carving. Every twist, dent, pinch of the clay is an exploration of new forms. As part of her commitment to sustainability, Karen often uses reclaimed glass from discarded bottles to decorate her work, which is particularly effective when creating watery reflections.
