Paint & Draw Atelier provides tutored short courses with a focus on painting and drawing, including explorative drawing and oil painting. Courses cover painting the figure, landscapes, portraits, and still life. We also offer untutored life drawing classes once a month. Classes are held in the Round Tower, Old Portsmouth, and are led by experienced artists and Hotwalls Studios tenants, Ella Kilgour and Katie Munro.

Courses:
Life Drawing Classes:
Life Drawing sessions at the Round Tower in Old Portsmouth on the first Friday of the calendar month.
-Doors open at 6.15 pm, drawing begins at 6.30 pm so give yourselves time to set up.
-Two x 1 hour sessions, sketching from the live model with a short break in between. Poses will vary in length from 2 – 30 minutes. The model will be undraped, but depending on seasonal conditions (and the models comfort) the longer poses may be draped.
-All skills levels welcome. Although this will be an untutored class, Katie and Ella will be happy to give any guidance throughout the session. —Basic materials, drawing boards and seating will be provided. Easels are not provided but you are welcome to BYO. Paper will be available to purchase by the sheet.
Explorative Drawing Courses
6x weekly sessions
Exciting and educational Explorative Drawing Course led by experienced tutors and Hotwalls artists Katie Munro and Ella Kilgour. This course will focus on a different ways of drawing, exploring ways of seeing still life or the figure, and experimenting with mark making using charcoal, pastel, and pencil.
Expect to engage with a wide variety of playful and structured exercises that explore the importance of composition, line, tonal values and form.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, this course is accessible to all levels of experience. The course will take place in the historic Round Tower in Old Portsmouth, providing a unique and inspiring setting for artistic exploration.
Oil painting Essentials Oil Painting Course
6 x Weekly sessions
Learn how to paint in oils in this practical short course consisting of six weekly sessions. You will be guided through the fundamental techniques and principles of oil painting, allowing you to explore and develop your own unique style. Whether your ultimate goal is to paint portraits, still lives or landscapes or you simply want to try a new medium – this comprehensive course is designed to kick start your oil painting practice and give you the skills and the confidence to start painting on your own. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and intermediate levels alike, although some experience of drawing and/or painting would make a good foundation. Students can expect to produce a number of small oil paintings in a friendly and supportive teaching environment. Join us to unlock the potential of your creativity and get addicted to the joy of painting in this historic and versatile medium.
