Saturday Autumn Workshops at The Makers Table

Details:

Lino Printing – Saturday 3rd September 10am – 4pm £60.

Lino Printing photo

This traditional technique produces a distinctive style of print which can be both expressive and graphic. You will use lino tools to carve your designs and a small printing press or baren to transfer your inked image onto paper. All materials will be provided, however if you have any images which you have found (such as in books or magazines) or created (such as drawings or photographs) which appeal to you this will be helpful in beginning to visualise your print designs.

Suitable for beginners.  Participants must be over 16 years of age.

Textured Silver Jewellery Saturday 10th September 10am – 4pm £68

Workshop photo

Using a rolling mill, you will learn to transfer textures onto metal surfaces. You will then use this knowledge to transfer a final texture onto silver, cutting, shaping and drilling the metal to create your own non-soldered jewellery piece such as earrings or pendant. All materials and equipment will be provided.

Suitable for beginners.  Participants must be over 16 years of age.

Watercolour and Ink from Beach Finds Saturday 17th September 10am-1pm £30

Utilising the wonderful beach situated just behind our studio wall, we will begin by gathering flotsam and jetsam as source material.  Returning to the studio to experiment with watercolour and ink techniques, focussing on texture, form and colour to capture the essence of our environment. All materials will be provided, however if you have your own paints, pencils, brushes or paper you wish to use you are welcome to bring them along.  The workshop will go ahead whatever the weather as we already have an abundant collection of beautiful beach finds to work with.

Suitable for beginners.  Participants must be over 16 years of age.

Painterly Florals Saturday 24th September 10am-2pm £40

Inspiration for workshop

Watercolour and gouache will be used to explore floral forms. From drawing out floral structures to layering paints using descriptive and expressive techniques you will learn to begin creating your own painterly florals. All materials will be provided, however if you have your own paints, pencils, brushes or paper you wish to use you are welcome to bring them along.

Creative Jewellery Stringing Saturday 1st October 10am-1pm £30

Workshop inspiration photo

Rummage through our vintage haberdashery cabinet to find inspiring beads, buttons and threads to create eclectic strung necklaces or bracelets.  You will be introduced to traditional knotted stringing techniques and encouraged to take an experimental approach to combining colours, textures and shapes.  All materials and equipment will be provided.

Suitable for beginners.  Participants must be over 16 years of age.

Autumn Foliage Watercolours Saturday 15th October 10am-2pm £40

Workshop inspiration photo

You will use watercolour and gouache to capture the explosion of warm shades and blends found in Autumnal foliage. From drawing individual structures to layering form and texture you will explore and develop your own individual approach to this special time of year. All materials will be provided, however if you have your own paints, pencils, brushes or paper you wish to use you are welcome to bring them along.

Upcoming Christmas Saturday Workshops

Lino Printing for Christmas

Saturday 12th November 10am-3pm £50

Using this traditional technique you will be able to create personalised printed greetings cards and gift tags to your own design.  Begin by carving your designs using lino tools before inking up your plate with a brayer, moving on to transfer your inked image onto paper using our much loved sturdy little printing press , alternatively you may wish to experiment with using a baren. All materials will be provided, however if you have any seasonal images which you have found (such as in books or magazines) or created (such as drawings or photographs) which appeal to you this will be helpful in beginning to visualise your print designs.

Textile Christmas Decorations

Saturday 26th November 10am-2pm £40

Learn to use fabric paints, foiling and hand embroidery to create personalised textile decorations for Christmas.  You will be free to rummage through our vintage haberdashery cabinet and incorporate any treasures as embellishment to your design.  All materials will be provided, however if you have any particular scraps of fabric or threads you wish to use you are welcome to bring them along.

Suitable for beginners.  Participants must be over 16 years of age.

Tin Christmas Decorations

Saturday 3rd December 10am-2pm £40

Transform unwanted tins into original decorations.  Learn a range of techniques using recycled painted tin, such as hammering, doming, cutting and drilling to create your own Christmas decorations.  All materials and equipment will be provided, however if you have any particular old tins which you would like to use and are prepared to cut up, you are welcome to bring them along.

Suitable for beginners.  Participants must be over 16 years of age.

General Information;

Tea, coffee and cake are provided as part of your workshop fee.

Lunch; Please bring your own lunch, or there are places to buy lunch nearby such as The Canteen at Hotwalls, as well as a range of local pubs and cafes.

Parking; Parking is a mixture of up to two hours free parking opposite the studios, and paid parking which is priced from £1.60 an hour, 5 hours for £8 or all day for £12 (Prices correct at time of going to press).

Train; the nearest train station is at Portsmouth Harbour, which is approximately a 20-minute walk away from the Hotwalls Studios.

Toilets; newly refurbished public toilets are located within the Hotwalls site, including an accessible toilet, though there are no toilets located within the studio. These are approximately 100 metres away.

Studios and toilets are all wheelchair accessible.

Booking; please email info@themakerstable.co.uk to book your place or drop in to see us in person. Workshops are limited to six places for each and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Participants must be over 16 years of age.

Please note that workshops take place in The Makers Table studio which is open to the public, so we may have a few curious passers-by popping their heads in to buy work or see what we are doing!
